AGENDA:   2017 PFA Convention Tentative Agenda

In designing the program, the convention committee takes into account ALL feedback from the survey and comments made at the convention.  

ATTIRE:  Business casual is appropriate all week for the convention. 


REGISTRATION & FEE SCHEDULE:  Please note that registration will begin April 15th.  This is because PFA is getting an exciting new website that contains the convention registration forms and payments.   You will be emailed when the registration is open.  

Fraternal Members:  Late fees apply as of August 10, 2017

  • Annual dues for the fraternity:  $250
  • Annual dues for the fraternity and National Convention Registration:  $525

Associate Members:  Late fees apply as of August 10, 2017

  • Associate Member Dues Only (Not attending convention) - Includes company information on the website and in the Directory handed out at the Convention.  Also includes a copy of the most current RFP sent out in August:   $250
  • Associate Member Dues, Convention Registration, & Exhibit fee for one attendee: $1125
  • Additional Convention Attendee for Exhibiting: $275 each additional person
  • Additional Exhibit Table: $675

Guests: Use the Guest registration if you are NOT a fraternal or associate member. This is a non-member attending the entire convention, including the meeting portions, OR a guest of a member and ONLY attending meals and evening events. Please check the appropriate boxes.

NEW!!!   Chapter Advisors:  There are six universities within 10 miles of Birmingham.  Your local chapter advisors (no students please) are welcomed to join us for a day of learning on Friday.  Just pay for their meals and evening activity.  Please use the guest registration.  

CANCELLATIONS:  Cancellations after August 28, 2017 will not be given a refund.

Dr. Steve Taubman

Dr. Steve’s early years were plagued by crippling anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem. Despite graduating valedictorian from one of the nation’s top chiropractic colleges and running a thriving practice, Dr. Steve found that his outer success did little to calm his inner turmoil.

Kim Novak, CEO Novak Talks

Kim Novak is an independent consultant for Campus Safety, Student Risk Management and Student Organization Development. Additionally she serves Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity as the Director of Health & Safety. She is recognized as a national expert in student-focused risk management, organization conduct, hazing prevention, and involving students in campus safety efforts. She has been invited to speak at national conferences and on college campuses around the country and has served as faculty for several nationally sponsored professional institutes including HazingPrevention.Org’s institute, which was renamed in her honor in 2010 as the Novak Institute for Hazing Prevention.

Kim served as a Fellow for the U.S. Department of Education Higher Education Center and on several national advisory boards. She has served on the Board of Directors for HazingPrevention.Org, and The Association of Student Conduct Administrators. Kim currently serves as the Fraternity Executive Association’s Dean for the Interfraternity Institute (IFI) and on the Advisory Board for the University of Vermont Higher Ed Law Conference. In 2008 Kim served as an advisor on the national Response-Ability Bystander Intervention Project, a national fraternity and sorority educational initiative. Additionally, she served as the lead editor of the Student Risk Management Compendium published by NACUA in 2006.

Prior to embarking on her consulting career, Kim served as the Director for Student and Campus Community Development at Arizona State University, Downtown Phoenix campus. Her primary responsibilities involved the development of and supervision of a team that led Student Conduct Programs, High Risk Behavior Education, Student Affairs Risk Management, Student Advocacy Services, Crisis Intervention and Response as well as Campus Safety for the new urban campus. She was also the Assistant Director for Student Affairs Risk Management at Arizona State University, Tempe Campus where she led the design and implementation of a comprehensive and proactive risk management model for The Division of Student Affairs. Prior to joining the ASU community, Kim worked for eight years at Texas A&M University where she served as Program Coordinator for Risk Management and Organizational Development and led the implementation of the University's internationally recognized proactive risk management plan for student organizations.

Kim has been awarded countless honors for her work with college students and professionals. Including Interfraternal accolades from Kappa Alpha Order, Zeta Beta Tau, Pi Kappa Phi, and Sigma Phi Beta. In 2013 she was honored with the Silver Medal By the North American Inter-Fraternal Conference for her leadership in advancing the fraternal movement and for her hazing prevention work.

Kim approaches her work with college students and those that support them with the heart of an advocate and is committed to the advancement of communities of care on college campuses across the country.

John Christopher, JD

John E. Christopher is a Founding Partner of Fraternal Law Partners. He helps clients navigate the legal challenges of non-profit organizations, including seeking and maintaining tax-exempt status, corporate governance matters and grant-making. He also advises national fraternities and sororities, their chapters and their foundations on issues related to risk management and housing issues. He is a frequent contributor to the Fraternal Law Newsletter, a quarterly publication dedicated to the legal issues relevant to Greek life organizations. He has also presented at conventions and leadership institutes on issues related to taxes and tax exemption, corporate governance and other topics. He serves on the board of the North-American Interfraternity Conference Foundation.

John has been named an Ohio Super Lawyers Rising Star by Law and Politics Media and has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America® for nonprofit organizations since 2007 and has recently added an additional listing for taxation. He is a member of the Ohio, Kentucky and American Bar Associations. He pledged Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity in 1985 and activated in the spring of 1986. An active member of the community, John has served on the Board of the Woman’s Art Club of Cincinnati Foundation, served as the treasurer for Mariemont Pack 1 of the Cub Scouts of America, is part of the Foundation Advisory Network of the Greater Cincinnati Foundation, is an assistant coach with Mariemont High School Girls Lacrosse and Terrace Park Boys Youth Lacrosse and has coached boys and girls youth sports for over a decade.

John has been practicing law for 22 years. He earned his J.D. from the Salmon P. Chase College of Law at Northern Kentucky University (cum laude, 1993) and a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Taxation from the University of Florida (1994). He completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Kentucky (B.A., 1990).

Jennifer Mores, Account Executive, James R. Favor & Company

Jennifer Mores is an Account Executive at James R. Favor and Company, serving the complex risk management and insurance needs of several PFA Fraternal Members. Jennifer has a unique 20-year background in fraternity / sorority operations, real estate and insurance, having served on the staff and as a volunteer for her sorority’s Fraternity and Foundation. Jennifer is a member of Alpha Gamma Delta and received her undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia. She currently volunteers her time on the Executive Board of the Denver Area Panhellenic.
